Puyallup Mourns Beloved Daffodilian

Former Daffodil Festival President and active volunteer Susan McGuire passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. She was 61.

Over the weekend, a beloved advocate for local children and a bright presence in the East Pierce community passed away.

Susan McGuire, the two-time Daffodil President and White River School District Board member, died on Saturday in her Buckley home. She was 61 and is survived by her son, two grandchildren and brother.

According to The Tacoma News Tribune, McGuire worked with the Puyallup Daffodil Festival since 1998 and served as president in 2005 and 2012.

She was an advocate for special needs children and started a scholarship, in honor of her late husband, to help Daffodil Princesses attend college.

She was a long-time elected board member of the White River School District, up until the time of her death.

McGuire always had a smile to share and words of encouragement to inspire the young people she worked with and nurtured.

The Daffodil Festival posted the following note on its Facebook page on Monday, June 24:

"Her two themes as President, Dreams Come Alive in 2005 and Believe in 2012, were not only anthems for the year, but resonated with her passions of education and hope for the future. The Festival and our extended family mourns the lost a devoted supporter, proud member, and good friend."
