The Salvation Army Expands Facility, Increases Services in Puyallup

From The Salvation Army of Puyallup:

The Salvation Army has expanding its facility and services in Puyallup and celebrated a grand reopening last week, at 4009 9th Street SW.

“We’ve simply outgrown our current building,” said Major Premek Kramerius, Corps Officer at The Salvation Army in Puyallup. “The need is great in our community, and this additional space will allow us to serve more people, and do so more efficiently.”

The original building was built in 1989. The Salvation Army in Puyallup offers programs and services to neighbors who need assistance in Puyallup and the nearby communities of Bonney Lake, Sumner, Graham and Milton.

Renovations included an expanded food bank and storage area, plus a new reception area for clients visiting the food bank. The building now covers over 12,000 feet of space.

Two new classrooms have also been added for the Corps’ extensive Life Skills program.

“Our social services mission is to help people break the cycle of poverty and help them become self-sufficient,” said Major Premek Kramerius. “We host monthly Life Skills classes, including lessons in budgeting, resume writing, interview skills, and more.”

Last year, The Salvation Army in Puyallup provided services to more than 40,000 members of the community. This number represents 125 percent growth in clients being assisted during the past three years.

Established in 1984, The Salvation Army Puyallup Corps provides services to needy members of the community. Other programs include the Senior Center, which hosts meals and social activities; Family Services; 65 affordable apartments for seniors at the Silvercrest; Emergency Disaster Services; and summer camp (day or week-long) at Camp Arnold in Eatonville. Holiday programs include holiday meals, food baskets, and toy donations.

All programs and services of The Salvation Army are funded through the generous contributions of donors. This renovation project was made possible by estate trust gifts to The Salvation Army from local donors.

Donations are necessary for The Salvation Army to continue and expand services in Puyallup and can be made in person at the service office (4009 9th Street SW, Puyallup, 98373) or online at www.SalvationArmyPuyallup.org
