Police Arrest Puyallup Student for Bringing Gun to School

Puyallup High School was placed under lockdown Friday morning, according to Puyallup Police.

UPDATE: On Friday, May 17, 2013, the Puyallup High School’s School Resource Officer (SRO) was alerted by school staff that a 17-year-old 11th grade student at the school had possibly possessed a handgun at the school the day prior, Thursday, May 16, 2013.

An investigation commenced and the suspect student was identified by witnesses, Puyallup Police Capt. Scott Engle said.

During the investigation, PHS was placed into lockdown while officers attempted to locate the student as his whereabouts were unknown to school staff and officers.

The suspect student was located off-campus at his residence. PPD and Fife Police Department officers contacted the student at his residence where he was subsequently placed under arrest.

An airsoft pistol was recovered from the suspect’s residence. The suspect was booked into Remann Hall for unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds.

UPDATE: Puyallup Police Capt. Scott Engle told Patch that the high school was placed under lockdown this morning as police searched for a juvenile suspect wanted in an investigation.

He could not comment on the specifics of the investigation or the teen's age, but said the juvenile male was found off-campus.

ORIGINAL STORY

The Puyallup School District just tweeted:

"The Puyallup High School campus is in lockdown until further notice. Puyallup Police officers are on the scene to ensure student safety."

Less than five minutes later, the Puyallup School District tweeted that the lockdown was lifted.
