Bear Spotted in Wildwood Park

A medium-sized bear showed up in Wildwood Park Thursday evening, according to the Puyallup Police Department.

The caretaker of the park heard glass breaking and found the bear propped up on his back legs fishing out of trash bags, tearing them open for some "leftover buffet," the police report says.

Fish and Wildlife responded and the bear was sighted again as it crossed 23rd Ave SE, near the baseball fields. The bear could not be located.

Fish and Wildlife returned Friday to set a trap near the dumpster and advised not to shut down or limit public access to the park at this point. The caretaker took a photo of the bear, but it did not turn out due to the window glass. Chaining and locking the dumpster will also need to be done in the future by the caretaker/Parks Department.
