Burglars Clean Out Restaurant Kitchen, Shoplifter Feigns Seafood Allergy to Avoid Jail

July 18, 2013

Theft: Two BMX bikes were stolen from outside the Puyallup Library. 

Warrant Arrest, Obstructing Justice: A man called 9-1-1 multiple times over the past two days, alleging his sister-in-law assaulted him. Anytime officers attempted to locate them, they were unsuccessful. Then he reported he was assaulted with a baseball bat at an apartment on 7th St. SE. Police arrived to find an elderly resident who was blocking the door with her wheelchair. Behind the door the woman was found, a struggle ensued to get her into custody. A man in a bedroom closet attempted to dive under the bed covers to hide. The woman was taken into custody for resisting arrest and obstructing justice. The elderly woman claimed she didn’t know she was there.

Burglary: A resident of Meridian Hills Assisted Living reported that approximately $45 in coins was stolen from his room. It was the third theft report from that facility in the past week.

Graffiti: Witnesses reported three suspicious people “tagging” the outside of a building with spray paint. The moniker “Steez” was written across the building. Three juveniles were detained at the skate park, but all three denied it and there was no paint on them. The case has been forwarded to the special investigations unit.

Interrupted Vehicle Prowl: A man reported seeing an unknown man seated in his girlfriend’s Subaru, parked outside an apartment on 7th Ave. SE. The suspect broke the car handle to enter the vehicle and took off running.

Burglary: Sometime overnight, approximately $1,000 worth of lumber was stolen from a new home under construction on 17th Ave. 

Possession of Stolen Property, Drugs, Theft: Police responded to Good Samaritan Hospital for assistance in trespassing a man who was accused of stealing a nurse’s cell phone. Later in the day, employees from the medical office across the street reported a series of events with the man, after he was found damaging a used sharps container to steal needles. The Hampton Inn then reported that he was doing drugs in their lobby bathroom. Police found him in possession of heroin, pills and property stolen from two separate car prowls in Bonney Lake.

Possession of Stolen Property, Drugs: A man called police to report he was threatened with a gun by an acquaintance. The suspect was detained and police did a search of his bag. A purse was found that was stolen the night before. There was heroin inside, too. 

Vehicle Prowl: A Toyota parked in the Mama Stortini’s restaurant parking lot was broken into and a duffle bag was stolen. The theft happened at approximately 5 p.m. 

Vehicle Prowl: Around 5 p.m. a car was broken into at Decoursey Park. The suspect entered through a window left rolled down and rummaged through the glove compartment but nothing was taken.

Residential Burglary: Between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. unknown suspects entered an apartment on 4th Ave. SE through an unsecured window. Nothing was removed from the apartment, but a long piece of wood was left in the toilet. 

Elderly Driver: Citizens reported a possible DUI driver traveling on the rims of their vehicle along West Stewart. The driver was found to be elderly and confused—not impaired. The 88-year-old woman told police she was planning on driving home to Federal Way when she was stopped. She admitted to driving over 30 miles that way, on the rims of her car, which sustained extensive damage. A DOL re-exam was completed and her daughter came to pick her up.

False Statements to Police, Marijuana Possession: A 20-year-old man was observed helping another man steal CDs from Walmart. He acted as lookout and texted his friend as he spotted officers approach. He gave a false name and a small amount of marijuana was located on his person. After being booked, he told police that he ate fish hours earlier and was allergic to seafood. Fire officials found him in good health. With renewed health and a denial of his get-out-of-jail attempt, the man “donkey-kicked” the cell door and covered the inside camera with paper.

Vehicle Prowl: Overnight, suspects entered a SUV parked outside an apartment on 21st Ave. SW. Two iPod devices were stolen and the car was likely unlocked.

July 16, 2013

Domestic Violence, MIP: A 20 year-old was arrested and booked after an argument with his wife, during which she confronted him about his drinking problem. He became enraged and shattered his drinking glass and punched a hole in the wall.

False Statements: A 15-year-old was contacted for loitering on the train tracks with several other juveniles. He lied about his name and tried to conceal his identity because he thought he had an arrest warrant, but he did not—he’s a level 1 sex offender with a Pierce County address. He was transported to Remann Hall.

Vehicle Prowls: Two vehicles parked in the Red Lot had multiple windows smashed. Nothing was taken. 

Commercial Burglary: Sam’s Taqueria on North Meridian was burglarized and the entire kitchen was stolen—including fryers, grill, food warmer, computers and a cash register. Police believe the crime would have taken a large truck and a lot of time.

July 15, 2013

Felony Malicious Mischief: A victim reported that obscenities had been scratched into the paint of her car and three tires were slashed. Investigation revealed it was the woman’s ex-boyfriend, who confessed to the crime.

Harassment: A woman called police while being chased down the street by two people who were threatening to assault her. The claimed she owed them money for babysitting her daughter. Both were booked for verbal and physical threats.

Vehicle Prowl: A vehicle was prowled at Decoursey Park but nothing appeared to be taken.

Vehicle Prowls: Two vehicles in the caretaker lot of Wildwood Park were broken into and a GPS was stolen.

Theft: Three subjects were witnessed stealing a UPS box containing a lawn mower off the front lawn of a home on 7th Ave. SE.

Vehicle Recovery: A stolen Pepsi delivery truck was found parked outside a residence on 9th St SE.

Vehicle Prowl: A car was prowled while parked outside The Rock Pizza and a duffle bag was stolen.
