DUI Emphasis Patrols Arrest 10 Drunk Drivers in Puyallup Saturday Night

The Pierce County DUI Task Force arrested 31 individuals for drunk driving across east Pierce County on Saturday night – 10 of them within Puyallup city limits.

If there’s something Pierce County knows for sure, it’s that Halloween parties and alcohol often go hand-in-hand.

That’s why a multi-agency drunk driving emphasis blitz led by the Pierce County DUI Task Force was scheduled for the Saturday night before Halloween. In all, 31 people on the east side of Pierce County were arrested that night and 10 of those arrests were made within Puyallup’s city limits.

Sgt. Bob Thompson of the Puyallup Police Department told Patch that loud bar parties in Puyallup weren’t the problem—most of the people arrested for DUI Saturday night attended house parties or major events like FreakNight in Seattle.

“I can say this—I’ve been working in this town for 25 years and the bars were very low in attendance for a Saturday night,” said Thompson.

Eleven officers across Pierce County joined four troopers from the Washington State Patrol in Saturday’s blitz, with 15 DUI arrests made in town and 16 drivers taken off the highways.

Thompson said one of the DUIs during the evening resulted in a minor collision in unincorporated Pierce County, but there were no serious injuries or fatalities.

It makes you wonder if those arrested on Saturday night were really planning to incorporate an orange jumpsuit into their Halloween costumes or not.

The Pierce County Party Intervention Patrol was out on Saturday night too and arrested 18 teenagers at a party on Inlet Island near Bonney Lake. Read more on Bonney Lake-Sumner Patch.
