Authorities responded to a house fire Wednesday morning and ended up finding a marijuana grow operation, according to Puyallup Police spokesman Capt. Scott Engle.
At 8:06 a.m., Central Pierce Fire and Rescue, along with Puyallup Police officers, were dispatched to a house fire in the 800 block of 5th Street Southeast in Puyallup.
Upon arrival officers located a renter of the home who reported an electrical problem in the house.
Firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire. While in the home, firefighters discovered a marijuana grow operation.
Detectives from the Puyallup Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.
Engle said evidence of a marijuana grow operation was seized from the home. A report will be submitted to the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office for further review and consideration of possible criminal charges.
Two neighboring homes were also evacuated during the fire.
