Fire Reaches Homes in Puyallup Neighborhood

Central Pierce Fire crews are at the scene of a residential fire in the English Ridge neighborhood near Puyallup, news outlets and witnesses report.

Firefighters from Central Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at a duplex and adjacent home in the English Ridge neighborhood at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The fire is located on the 8600 block of 132nd St. Ct. E. and was initially called in as a brush fire, said Ed Hrivnak, Central Pierce assistant chief and public information officer. The fire rapidly spread to the homes and was elevated to a two-alarm status, with 2 ladder trucks and 8 fire engines responding.

There were no injuries reported and firefighters were able to rescue Shorty, the family dog, according to Hrivnak and users on the Puyallup Patch Facebook page. The fire was extinguished 28 minutes after the call came in.

Hrivnak said investigators are still on the scene and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
