Man Robbed for Baby Formula and Wedding Ring, DUIs After Meeker Days

The following arrest and crime information has been supplied by the Puyallup Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

JUNE 21, 2013

Security Issues at Baskets And Things: Several issues arose during Meeker Days in front of the West Meeker store Baskets and Things that had to do with the neighboring business, formally Lee's Martial Arts Studio. Meeker Days Main Street Association barricaded off the sidewalk in front of the two businesses, preventing public access, in hopes that they could dispel any further issues. Burglary to Garage: Unknown suspects entered a rear door to a garage on 13th St. SW and stole several tools and other items. A stash was located in the bushes nearby, but a generator, nailing gun and pair of riding pants are still missing.

Shoplifting: Three women stole approximately $400 in bras from Victoria’s Secret. 

Transient Camp: Police learned of a transient camp located in the woods behind the Serta Mattress store. A 40 year-old man was arrested there for a burglary warrant from Montana. Public Works was contacted due to the large amount of human feces in the camp.

DUIs: Puyallup Police arrested 5 individuals for DUI Friday night. Some had been at Meeker Days events. 

JUNE 22, 2013

Bar Inspections: Police spent a lot of time on foot at the bars near the Meeker Days event. There were no major problems, although many were impaired and one man was found vomiting on the sidewalk.

Malicious Mischief: A 20 year-old returned home to his parents’ house on 4th St. SW after being out all night with his girlfriend. An argument ensued and his parents locked him out of the house. He damaged the rear door when he tried to kick it in.

Vehicle Prowl: Unknown suspects stole a briefcase from an unlocked vehicle and promptly discarded it a few blocks away. Nothing was missing.

Theft: Over $1200 in solar lighting was stolen from a resident yard on 13th Ave. NW.

Possession of Stolen Property/Forgery: A suspicious man was reported by a teller at the Key Bank on South Meridian as he was attempting to cash a stolen check, which had been forged and made out to himself.

Armed Robbery: A man was walking on an access road to 39th Ave. SW from the Ross clothing store when an unknown man asked for a cigarette light, then pulled out a silver-colored pistol. The man handed over his watch, wallet and wife’s wedding ring, which he was carrying with him to the mall to have it resized—they just had a baby and it was their anniversary. However, the victim refused to hand over baby formula from a shopping bag, and that’s when the suspect sprayed him in the face with mace. There are no leads in this case, but the suspect is described as a mixed-race male in his 20s.

DUIs: Four individuals were arrested for DUI Saturday night. One man was arrested after leaving a quinceanera at the Elks Lodge with his young children in the backseat when he was too drunk to drive. Others were drinking at downtown bars.

JUNE 23, 2013

Theft from Vehicle: A car owner left various items in his car, parked in the Orange Lot on Fairview Drive, while he went to get his vendor pass for an event. When he returned 45 minutes later, he was missing knives, sheaths and other objects missing.

Theft from Vehicle: Unknown suspects broke into a vehicle parked on 18th St. Pl. SE and stole a T-shirt.

Boat Theft: A $9,000 motor was stolen from a fishing boat in a locked, fenced yard. They also siphoned nearly half of the boat's gas tank.  

Sex Offender Violation: The vehicle of a registered sex offender was located near his girlfriend’s residence, where it had been parked for several weeks. He was supposed to be living at another residence. This was forwarded to the Prosecutor. 

JUNE 24, 2013

Warrant Arrest: Two homeless people were observed standing in front of First Christian Church sharing a can of beer. The man was arrested for multiple warrants. Both stated they had nowhere to go since the Freezing Nights program ended and thought they were able to drink beer on the church property because they were part of that program.

Assault: A 16-year-old was arrested and booked for becoming angry with his 11-year-old brother and holding a blanket over his face, restricting his breathing. 

Involuntary Commit: An 18 year-old became overwhelmed when her friend insisted she pay rent, so she gave herself superficial cuts on her arm. She fled the area on foot but was located nearby and involuntarily committed to a hospital.

Domestic Violence Violation: A man sent several Facebook messages to his ex girlfriend, violating her protection order against him. he also had a warrant out for his arrest.

Vehicle Prowl: A patron of The Rock returned to his car to find his rear passenger window smashed in. Unknown suspects stole a bag containing an iPod, checkbook and headphones. At the same time, a similar theft happened in the BJs Brewhouse parking lot and again in the Applebees parking lot.

Theft: A 19 year-old and 16 year-old worked together to conceal a bottle of vodka in Walmart and attempted to leave the store. Both were intoxicated, well over the adult legal drinking age.

JUNE 25, 2013 

Burglary: Overnight, someone pried open the gate and entered a business yard on Inter Ave. They damaged a snowmobile trailer but didn’t take anything. 

Theft from Vehicle: A witness reported seeing a man and woman steal a weed eater and edger from his landscape trailer.

Stolen Vehicle, Eluding: An officer stopped a SUV for driving without headlights on River Road. On contact, the driver got nervous and “floored it” after he said he didn’t have identification. The officer ended the pursuit due to wet conditions and the minor violation. The plates were traced back to a Tacoma address, where a car owner had reported one of his plates had been stolen from his vehicle. It was almost identical to the suspect vehicle in make and color.
