Police Investigate Attempted Child Luring in Puyallup

A man attempted to lure a 16-year-old boy into his van near East Pioneer in Puyallup.

The following information was released by Puyallup Police:

The Puyallup Police Department is investigating an attempted child luring incident that occurred on Friday, June 14.

Around 10:22 p.m., Puyallup Police received a report of an attempted child luring in the 1300 block of East Pioneer.

Officers contacted the 16-year-old male victim at his residence and began investigating the incident. The victim reported that he was walking home from a grocery store in downtown Puyallup on June 14, 2013 at approximately 10 p.m.

The victim stated that as he approached the intersection of 13th Street Southeast and East Pioneer, he observed a green style camper van parked on 13th Street Southeast.

The van was parked with its lights and ignition off. As the victim walked by the windows to the van rolled down and the suspect shouted, “Hey, get in the car now.” 

The victim told the suspect, “No” and continued walking. A few moments later the victim heard the van start up at which point the victim began to run. The van turned around and began driving toward the victim.

The victim reported that as he ran through an alley he noticed that the suspect had exited the vehicle and appeared to be running after him.

The victim ran past several houses in the alley before looking back again and seeing the suspect returning to his van. As the suspect returned to his van, the victim stopped running and hid under a vehicle. The victim remained under the vehicle until the van slowly drove by and exited the alley.

The suspect is described as male, black, late 20s to early 30s, with a blue gauge in his ear and a scruffy beard. The suspect spoke in a feminine voice with a slight stutter.

The suspect vehicle was described as a light green camper/conversion van with squiggly striping down the side, dark tinted windows, shiny rims with Firestone tires, and side passenger doors that opened like “French doors.” 

The first digit/letter of the license plate began with an “A.”

The Puyallup Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is actively investigating this incident. 

Investigators need the public’s help in identifying this suspect in this case.
