Puyallup Apartments Evacuated After Police Find Large Cache of Fireworks

The Puyallup Tribal Police Department in conjunction with the Puyallup Police Department arrested a male Puyallup resident in his 40’s for possession of illegal fireworks. The suspect possessed a large amount of fireworks that were stored in several storage units at an apartment community in the 1600 block of East Main.

Several days ago the Puyallup Tribal Police Department acted on a tip that an individual in City of Puyallup possessed a large amount of illegal fireworks. The Puyallup Tribal Police Department took the lead on the investigation. Due to the location of the cache of fireworks the Puyallup Tribal Police Department contacted the Puyallup Police Department and they initiated a joint investigation. Officers developed probable cause for the suspect and obtained a search warrant for suspect’s garages and apartment.

Earlier this evening the suspect was arrested without incident and the search warrant was served on several locations. Upon serving the warrants officers located a large cache of both legal and illegal fireworks.

Due to the size of the cache and the type of fireworks located, the Pierce County Sheriffs Department Hazardous Devices Squad and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms were summonsed to the scene to assist with the identification and safe disposal of the fireworks.

The suspect is expected to be booked into the Pierce County Jail on several charges relating to the possession and distribution of illegal and highly dangerous fireworks.

Fireworks of this nature are extremely dangerous and need licensed personnel to distribute and handle them. The Puyallup Tribal Police Department and the Puyallup Police Department acted as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of the community that could have been greatly affected by a mishap involving these products.

Puyallup Police and other police agencies are at a large fireworks bust on East Main Street Thursday night.

Several nearby apartments on the 1600 block of East Main have been evacuated due to the dangerous nature of the items found, Puyallup Police tweeted at about 9 p.m.
