Puyallup Police Blotter: 14-Year-Old Hit by Oncoming Traffic, Stolen Van Set on Fire in Park & Ride

FEB. 23, 2013

Trespass: A 20-year-old man became really high and ran away from fire personnel, who were treating him, and entered his neighbor’s yard. When the homeowner walked outside to investigate, the suspect ran inside the house and locked him out. The suspect ended up at the hospital.

Shoplifting, Obstructing: Two men attempted to steal a bottle of liquor from Rite Aid. One ran toward the river and was caught, the other was caught hiding in the bushes outside the store. Both had a slew of criminal warrants.

FEB. 28, 2013

Criminal Trespass: A woman who was kicked out of the Freezing Nights program tried to buy food with old receipts and Lotto tickets at McDonald’s. She was asked to leave, but refused and was booked.

Arson of Stolen Vehicle: Unknown suspects dumped a stolen van at the Park and Ride and lit the vehicle on fire. Central Pierce Fire and Rescue were able to extinguish the blaze before it damaged other vehicles in the lot.

MARCH 1, 2013

Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision: A 14-year-old attempted to cross South Meridian during a heavy traffic time and was struck by a car. There were no signs of impairment, and the boy was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Criminal Trespass: A woman was arrested for harassing people in Pioneer Park. She was also cited for having prescription pills on her person that were outside the original container. 

Felony Arrest: A man who was slumped over the wheel of a car in the Walgreens parking lot was arrested for an escape warrant from the DOC.

MARCH 2, 2013

Motor Vehicle Theft Recovery: Police investigated a call regarding a suspicious vehicle on West Stewart. The Dodge Caravan was sitting up on blocks, with all four wheels missing plus some engine parts. It had been stolen from Fife.

DUI, Obstructing: A driver was stopped on the 1500 block of East Main Ave. for driving without his lights on. He submitted breath samples and was found to be over twice the legal limit. His passenger became belligerent and refused to leave the scene and interfered with the tow truck. The two men said they had been to several Puyallup bars that evening.

Involuntary Committal: A woman who was recently despondent after a hospital committal for seizures caused by methamphetamine jumped out of her boyfriend’s car while driving along E. Pioneer. She made suicidal comments before running away. She was contacted a few blocks down the road by fire staff and refused medical treatment. She was involuntarily committed for mental health observation.

Hit and Run: A driver was on northbound 9th St. SW and failed to yield, and turned on to the freeway directly in the path of a victim car. He attempted to flee, but his damaged vehicle failed him and was quickly apprehended by police. He was not intoxicated but had an extensive criminal history.

Drug DUI: A driver was pulled over for no headlights and attempted to ditch a crack pipe out the window. He was arrested for DUI-drugs.

MARCH 3, 2013

Suspicious Activity: A resident of the Meridian West Apartments said a masked individual was outside the building with an assault rifle. The 21-year-old was contacted—he was carrying a paintball rifle and was a mentally disabled resident of the complex. He told police he was waiting for his brother to come home from work so he could jump out and scare him.

Death Investigation: A truck driver was found dead in the sleeper portion of his semi tractor at PS&L on Valley Ave. NW.

Overdose: A young man was dropped off outside the Good Samaritan Hospital emergency room by “friends” who fled in a car. He had no identification on him and at the time of the report remained unidentified. He overdosed on heroin.

MARCH 4, 2013

Commercial Burglary: Almost $300 was stolen from Trackside Barber after suspects broke into the business after hours.

MARCH 5, 2013

Damage to Jail Van: A window on the jail van was shattered while it was parked out on the street. Recently, a police car and the department bay doors were pelted with rocks, too.

Commercial Burglary: Gotta Fit on W. Main was burglarized. A lot of True Religion brand items were stolen, all in the same men’s size. A laptop was stolen as well.

Damage to Property: Graffiti was painted on the N. Meridian transit garage.

MARCH 7, 2013

Liquor Violation: Officers patrolling the downtown Library and Pioneer Park were informed that a drunk man was asking girls inside the library if they would have sex with him. He was a Freezing Nights guest with mental issues, and was drinking whiskey out of water bottle. He was cited and charged.
