Puyallup Police Blotter: Collie Rescued from a Hot Car, Man Bullied and Assaulted on Scooter

The following arrest and crime information has been supplied by the Puyallup Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

JUNE 4, 2013

Gas Theft: Approximately 10 gallons of gas were siphoned from a transport van owned by Le Petite Academy.

Vehicle Theft: A 1996 Honda Accord was stolen from outside a residence on 5th Ave. NE.

Mental Health Call: The foster son of the owner of Baskets and Things on West Meeker Street was having mental health issues that were likely due to schizophrenia. His actions didn’t warrant an involuntary committal and he was unwilling to go to a mental health professional.

Assault: A 40 year-old man put a shotgun to his 26 year-old wife’s throat and threatened to kill her at their home on 10th St. Ct. E. The woman fled to Wal-Mart and he confronted her there. Police intercepted him as he was leaving the store and recovered the gun, which was loaded with a spent shell but made to look like a live round in the chamber.

Shoplifting: A man attempted to steal a pair of jeans from the Buckle store. A female employee attempted to stop him and he pushed her to the side when trying to flee. He was taken down by an off-duty policeman and had heroin tools in his possession. 

Gas Theft: Gas was siphoned out of a Pierce Transit van parked outside Walgreens on S. Meridian.

Vehicle Theft: A man stole a 1995 green Honda Accord and fled from police on 18th St. NW. He spent some time in the 76 gas station across the street from the theft, which occurred on River Road. He told the clerk he was hiding from police and had scratches on his arms, which he was picking thorns out of. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, about 6 foot 1 inches tall, about 230 pounds.

JUNE 2, 2013

Animal Rescue: Unknown people left their Border Collie locked in a Subaru with no water outside the South Hill Mall, near Dick’s Sporting Goods. The dog was in obvious distress and the owner could not be located, so the officer unlocked the car door with a coat hanger and took the dog to the vet. At the time of the report, the owner has not been identified to claim their dog.

Vehicle Theft: A 1995 green Acura Integra was stolen from outside a home on 24th Ave. SE.

JUNE 1, 2013

Burglary: Early Friday morning, two suspects in dark hooded sweatshirts and pants pulled up to EZ Mart and cut a padlock on a storage box with bolt cutters. They stole approximately 25 recycled car batteries and fled in a lightly-colored 4-door car with a spoiler and damage to the right front fender.

Theft: A delivery driver reported seeing three young people stealing approximately $400 in baled cardboard from behind Dick’s Sporting Goods. An officer located the vehicle near Target and stopped it. One 23-year-old passenger was hostile and ultimately booked for obstruction and theft. The driver was booked for driving with a suspended license, theft and a no-bail warrant. The third individual was cited with theft and released from the scene.

DUI: A 41 year-old man was stopped for very aggressive driving at 8:30 a.m. and was found to be intoxicated over the legal limit. He told officers he was drinking beer last night at home and driving poorly because he was late for work.

DUI, Hit and Run: A 24 year-old woman was arrested for driving her car into a parked vehicle on 4th St. NW. It pushed this vehicle into another. She fled the scene and parked in front of the Mongolian Grill and headed to the Riverwalk Trail. She was located there, identified and arrested. She was extremely uncooperative but was booked for DUI.

DUI: A 28 year-old man and his friend got into a drunken fight at Twisted Kilt and he was thrown out by the bouncers. The friend continued to fight in the bar and ended up getting pepper sprayed by the bouncers. Some time later, both left in a car and it was called in as DUI. The suspect driver incorrectly stopped at an intersection directly in front of the officer who was looking for him. He was found to be over the legal limit and arrested for DUI.

Weapons Violation: A 28 year-old man and his friends were drinking at Wayne’s Inn and got involved in an argument. Someone nearby spotted a handgun in the man’s waistband. An altercation started and he bragged about the gun in the bar, but never showed it and left with his friends. The loaded weapon was found after officers followed them from the bar and stopped the vehicle. He was arrested for improper carrying of a weapon into a bar.

Assault: A very intoxicated 46 year-old man got into an argument with a man on a scooter in the parking lot of Ma’s Place on 39th Ave. SW. The suspect called him derogatory names and made fun of the scooter, then grabbed the victim by the back of the neck and tried to land an "upper cut" before being stopped by the bartender. The suspect was located in the passenger’s seat of a car, trying to flee the scene. He was arrested for assault.
