Puyallup Police Blotter: Thieves Flee in Tablecloths Worn as Capes, Decorative Bull Skull Stolen

The following crime information has been provided by the Puyallup Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

MAY 10, 2013

Tire Theft: Unknown suspects stole tires from an outdoor storage rack in the service area of Harnish Buick/GMC.

False Information: A man lied to police about his identity when he was caught in the middle of a fraud investigation at Harborstone Credit Union. He also had a warrant for assault.  

MAY 11, 2013

Fire: Puyallup Police responded to a “confirmed” fire in the pool pump room of the YMCA. They evacuated the building and shut off traffic, only to discover that it was just a ceiling light that was smoking.

Malicious Mischief: Overnight, someone threw a rock through a double pane window at the Puyallup Library. The hole was too small for entry to be gained inside.

Vehicle Prowl: Three cars were broken into while parked in the Ferrucci Junior High parking lot during a lacrosse game.

Theft: Red tablecloths were stolen from the Washington State Fairgrounds. Employees witnessed a male and female fleeing the area, wearing the tablecloths as capes.

Assault: An inmate in Puyallup Jail assaulted another inmate. The victim didn’t report it, but the assault was captured on camera.

Felony Order Violation/Assault: Police responded to McDonalds for a report of a man assaulting his girlfriend. They tried hiding behind a neighboring business in a shipping container, but were located and had a no contact order against them.

DUI: A 26 year-old woman was arrested for DUI after she caused a fender bender on SR 167 and North Meridian.  

MAY 13, 2013

Domestic Assault: An 18-year-old woman was arrested after she was witnessed physically assaulting her boyfriend in an apartment parking lot. He was belligerent but had a fresh, bleeding scratch on his neck consistent with a witness statement that she pulled a chain off his neck.

Vehicle Theft: A 1974 white Pinto was stolen from the Sounder Station Red Lot. The keys had been left inside the vehicle.

Burglary: Sometime over the weekend, someone entered an unlocked garage in a residence on West Main Ave. and stole a backpack, surfboard and snowboard.

Theft: Unknown suspects damaged the scrap metal dumpster at Air Spares and stole 225 pounds of scrap aluminum metal and steel.

Order Violation: A woman created a Facebook page titled “Justice in Puyallup?” to blog negatively about Baskets & Things. She called police to report that an unwanted person was leaving comments on the page, violating a no contact order.

MAY 14, 2013

Involuntary Committal: A 22 year-old man returned to his home on 12th Ave. NW intoxicated and angry with his mother, who would not take him to Burger King for food. He started damaging property in his room and making suicidal statements. He had recently been committed for being disorderly and threatening someone with a hatchet, so he was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Theft: Harnish Buick/GMC was hit with tire theft, again. The wheels and tires had been secured with a large chain and two locks, which were cut.  

Malicious Mischief/Trespass: A 34-year-old man cut an ink tag off a pair of jeans at Macy’s, which got ink all over the jeans. He left them behind and was intercepted by a Puyallup Police officer before he got on a bus. He swallowed several unknown pills prior to contact and had been previously been trespassed from Macy’s. He was cited and treated by fire personnel.

Theft from Vehicle: A decorative, mosaic Brahma bull skull was stolen from the back of a truck parked on 3rd St. SE.

Theft of Vehicle: A purple 1997 Honda was stolen from outside an apartment on 9th St. SE. The victim later found it parked nearby, missing several hundred dollars worth of stereo equipment.

Disorderly Conduct: Several witnesses reported that a 46 year-old man was being disorderly on the 100 block of North Meridian. He was said to be shouting obscenities at random people walking by. Police detained him near the VFW. He was initially cooperative but when he was released, suddenly started shouting obscenities at officers, making gestures and obstructing traffic. He was arrested.
