Puyallup Police Blotter: Halloween Costume Grab and Run, Maid Assaulted At Motel

August 26, 2013

Theft from Vehicle: Sometime overnight, unknown suspects punched the locks on two vehicles in the Eagles Lodge parking lot and stole $100 in spare change. A discarded bag (minus the coins) was found near PHS.

Escape from Hospital: An inmate at the Puyallup Jail complained of chest pain while incarcerated on DUI and outstanding warrants. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. An hour later, security notified police that he had left the building. In a “bizarre twist,” the suspect showed up in the ER lobby six hours later, saying he’d “fallen asleep in a bathroom and never left.” However, security watched him walk out and then back in the front door. He was cleared and re-booked from the hospital with the additional escape charge.

MIP: The McDonald’s staff on 2nd St. NE called police to report about 20 people loitering in the parking lot. Among the group were two teens—ages 14 and 15—both intoxicated. They were released to their parents after being cited with minor in possession.

Theft from Vehicle: In the hour before last call, unknown subjects shattered a car window, parked outside the Loose Wheel Bar, and stole an iPhone that was left in plain view. Other expensive fishing gear was bypassed.

Car Recovery: A 1991 Toyota pickup stolen earlier in the month was located at an abandoned property on 16th Ave. NW. The car was extensively stripped of engine parts, wheels and tires.

Theft from Vehicle: Around 8:30 a.m. a victim’s purse was stolen from her car via the open sunroof. The car was parked at Wildwood Park.

Theft from Vehicle: Two employees at the Eagles Lodge had their vehicles prowled during a meeting. A screwdriver was found left inside the vehicle, and the victim’s cash was found left laying on the seat.

Organized Retail Theft: Two males in their mid 20s kicked open a store room door at Target and exited with three vacuums, worth over $1,500. 0

DUI: Two men were arrested for DUIs after drinking in downtown Puyallup.

Burglary: Sometime overnight while the victim was sleeping, unknown suspects entered the residence on 5th St. SE and stole numerous collectibles and jewelry items. They also stole two handguns and the victim’s purse. The victim suspected her friend’s son.

Theft from Vehicle: Sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. unknown suspects entered a victim’s vehicle while he was fishing off N. Levee Road. They reached through the partially open window to pull it down further. Almost $300 in cash and credit cards were stolen. 

Shoplifting: A man loaded up a backpack with $100 worth of liquor and fled a store on 37th Ave. SE. The loss prevention officers chased the suspect, who ended up dropping the merchandiser. The suspect was not located.

August 23, 2013

DUI: A 21-year-old was stopped on E. Main for driving without headlights. She was found to be intoxicated and arrested for DUI.

Shoplifting: A 26 year-old man did a “grab and run” with an armload of costumes from the Halloween Store at the South Hill Mall. He claimed to police that he was under arrest by unknown individuals, who forced him to steal the costumes and wouldn’t let him pay for them.

Suspended License, Warrant Arrest: A Puyallup officer working the Street of the Week emphasis stopped a 78-year-old driver for speeding. The man was test driving a vehicle from Korum Ford and had the car dealer with him. The elderly driver was found to have a suspended drivers license and a warrant for driving with a suspended license. He also received the speeding citation.

August 22, 2013

Burglary, Assault: A man trespassed from the Motel Puyallup was found in the maid room by employees. He did not have a room. Shortly after being trespassed, he returned to the motel, removed a screen from an unlocked window and entered the maids laundry room. He was confronted by an employee, whom he assaulted by throwing her to the ground and covering her mouth so she would stop screaming. He fled the scene and was not located. 

Suspended License, Driving without Interlock: During the Street of the Week traffic enforcement, a man was stopped for speeding. He had a suspended license and didn’t have a required ignition interlock. He also had a $15,000 DUI warrant out for his arrest.

Metal Theft Arrest, Meth: A Puyallup officer witnessed two brothers try to a steal metal garden shelf at Home Depot. One man was in possession of methamphetamine.

Shoplifting: A woman was arrested for stealing ladies’ underwear from Walmart.
