Puyallup Police Reports: Kids Start Fire in Mobile Home, Man in Ugly Christmas Sweater Breaks Into Empty Residence

JAN. 18, 2013

Arson: A nine-year-old and 10 year-old were detained for starting a fire in a mobile home on 26th St. NW.

Car Prowl: A man was arrested for looking into cars with a flashlight on the 1400 block of 4th Ave. NW. He said he was looking for money he dropped.

Residential Burglary: At about 9:30 a.m. a man wearing an ugly Christmas sweater and black stocking cap was witnessed ringing a doorbell on 38th Ave. SE. The victims were gone and the suspect walked to the side of the house and smashed a kitchen window. Over $2,000 in electronics and rare coins were stolen. The suspect is described by eyewitnesses as white, male, about 25 years old and 6 feet tall.

Assault: An intoxicated man smashed a pounder beer glass into the eye of another patron, causing serious damage to the victim's retina.

Assault: A man was punched in the face by an unknown Asian male after he tried to stop another fight at Bumpy’s Tavern.

JAN. 19, 2013

Car Theft: A black Toyota Tacoma was stolen from the driveway of a home on 16th Ave. Ct. SE.

Window Smash: A business on E. Stewart was damaged after unknown suspects smashed a window.

JAN. 22, 2013

Traffic Accident: An elderly driver became lost and pulled into the Sounder Station. She told police she got scared when several people congregating at the station for the Freezing Nights pickup came near her vehicle. She tried to leave but drove into a 4-foot retaining wall high centering her vehicle on the east side of the DSHS building. She was not impaired but had some medical issues.

Car Theft: A car was stolen while parked outside Walgreens on South Meridian.

Warrant Arrest: A man with a probation warrant was arrested when he was found sleeping in the backseat of a stolen vehicle, parked outside an apartment complex on 7th St. SE.

JAN. 24, 2013

DUI: A man was observed driving recklessly and cutting corners. He admitted to drinking at a bar on S. Meridian and was arrested for DUI.

DUI: A driver was pulled over for improper lane travel and a signal violation. He admitted to drinking and was cited for DUI.

Car Theft: A car was stolen while parked outside the Addison Green Apartments.

DUI, Theft of Liquor: A man was arrested for DUI on 7th St. SE. While on the scene one of the officers spotted a sealed bottle of liquor on the floorboards of his car. The bottle still had the security packaging on it. The officer recognized the man’s passenger from Safeway security footage taken earlier in the day. It was determined the passenger was responsible for the first theft and then returned to commit the second with the man who was drunk.

JAN. 25, 2013

Warrant Arrest: A driver pulled over during a routine traffic stop was found to have a Department of Corrections warrant for manufacturing and delivering methamphetamine. He was taken into custody.

DUI Accident: Three DUI arrests stemmed from a two-car collision on River Road. The one who caused the accident drove through a red light on 7th and River Road and hit another car. That driver had just left the Loose Wheel Bar and Grill. The third driver was arrested for driving past the crash site with no lights on while intoxicated.

Theft: A woman’s purse was stolen from First Presbyterian Church.

Residential Burglary: A resident of Willow Gardens reported that over $10,000 in jewelry was stolen.

Eluding: An officer attempted to pull over a driver for expired tabs. The suspect fled westbound on 7th Ave. SW but was stopped in a PIT maneuver. He had warrants out for his arrest for displaying a weapon and assault.

JAN. 26, 2013

Bar Fight: Numerous patrons at Cheers Bar and Grill got into a bar fight. There were pool sticks involved and many said they were gang members. Victims refused to cooperate with police.

DUI: A man was pulled over for bad driving by an off-duty Auburn police officer. Puyallup Police responded and found him to be impaired.

DUI Hit and Run: A man was arrested at his house for a hit and run earlier in the evening. He was almost four times the legal limit.

Strong Arm Robbery: A black man in his early 20s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and wearing a red hoodie asked to see an iPod behind the glass case. Once the employee removed the iPod from the case, the suspect grabbed it and pushed the employee to the ground.

Reckless Driving: A driver tried to beat the light on the 3500 block of S. Meridian and slid across seven lanes of travel before striking the curb and breaking the tire off his vehicle. He initially lied about driving but came clean and was cited for reckless driving and a driving with a suspended license.

JAN. 27, 2013

Armed Robbery: A woman was walking to her car in the Meridian Mobile Home Estates on 27th Ave. SE when an unknown suspect slammed her head into her car and cut her throat before stealing her black Nine West purse. This happened at the same time as the police standoff to take a man into custody with the SWAT team. Attempts to find the suspect with K-9 units were unsuccessful. The suspect is described as white and in his 20s, with brown hair and medium build, about 5 foot 10 inches tall. He was wearing a black hoodie with grey writing on it, with blue jeans and black tennis shoes.

Mailbox Damage: A community mail box had 15 boxes damaged in an attempt to open them overnight.

JAN. 28, 2013

Residential Burglary: A person who had their garage door opener stolen during a car prowl last month had her residence burglarized via the garage door being opened. Her laptop had been stolen.
