Car Involved in South Hill Shooting Hits Puyallup School Bus, Students Inside OK

A car fleeing the scene of a shooting rear-ended a Puyallup school bus near 94th Ave East and 136th Street East with Zeiger Elementary students inside. No one was injured and the Sheriff's office is still searching for the suspect.

An accident at 136th St. E. and 94th Ave. sent waves of panic through the Puyallup community after media outlets reported shots fired on a school bus just after 3 p.m.Β on Tuesday afternoon.

However, those initial reports turned out to be inaccurate, as no shots were fired on a school bus, or anywhere near it or school children.

The Pierce County Sheriff said a silver car was involved in a shooting at 136th St. E. and Meridian E. in South Hill, then drove several blocks down 136th and crashed into the bumper of a school bus that had several students on board.

According to a news release from the Puyallup School District, students on that bus were transported back to Zeiger Elementary School and will be reunited with their guardians.

The car fled the scene and deputies are searching for the car and driver.Β
