Two Sumner men were arrested late Monday evening for attempted armed robbery of the South Hill Pit Stop Express Mart at 801 South Hill Park Drive, according to a Puyallup Police news release.
A 47-year-old Sumner man walked into the business wearing a ski mask and displaying a handgun. The suspect pointed the handgun at the clerk and demanded money, then fled the store to a waiting red passenger vehicle. The clerk immediately called 911 and provided the vehicle and suspect description.
The suspect vehicle was driven by a fellow Sumner resident, who is 42 years old. The two fled the area in the red car but were spotted by a responding officer. The officer followed the suspect vehicle onto the eastbound SR 512 onramp from 31st Ave. SW. A high-risk stop was initiated and subsequently both subjects were placed under arrest for first degree robbery, along with other charges.
Both suspects in this case were convicted felons. Evidence from the crime scene was recovered and the vehicle was impounded to the Puyallup Police Department for continued investigation by the Puyallup Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU). Both suspects in this case were booked into the Pierce County Jail on multiple charges.
