Woman Hit by Sounder Train, Dies in Puyallup

A woman was walking north at 15th Street Southeast and East Pioneer Avenue when she was struck by a Sounder train on Wednesday. Her identity remains unknown.

A woman was killed by a Sound Transit train Wednesday evening in Puyallup, according to the Puyallup Police Department.

Officers from the Puyallup Police Department and Central Pierce Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the train-pedestrian collision at 15th St. Southeast and E. Pioneer at 6:30 p.m.

Patch has confirmed that the woman is Jade Rae Williams.

She was struck in the crossing by a southbound Sound Transit train. Upon arrival, officers located the unknown female subject deceased at the scene.

The Sound Transit train with approximately 250 passengers on board had stopped just south of the 15th Street Southeast crossing. The Puyallup Police Department Major Collision Response Team (MCRT) responded to the scene and is investigating the incident along with Sound Transit Police and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Police.

The preliminary investigation indicates the woman walked across the train tracks in front of the train and made no attempt to avoid the train.  All railroad crossing warning devices appear to have been in working order at the crossing.

She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, mother of 2 boys. She was mentally unwell but just had a hard time coping with everyday life. She also had a sickness of addiction. Jade could of been anything she wanted to be if she would of accepted help but the sickness wouldnt allow it. She was very much loved and wanted we just wish she would of let us help her. Our hearts are broken and we are trying to keep it all together for the boys.

The train involved in the accident cannot move until it is determined that there was no mechanical defect on the train. This is part of the investigation to make sure everything was working as designed. also there would likely need to be a crew change pending a routine drug screen (which will be negative of course).

My dear sweet Tammy, My heart is breaking for you, Mark (her father) and the boys. I know that you all did everything you could possibly have done for Jade, she knew that too. However, ppl with addictions are sick, and unless they want to be helped, you can't help them. From everything I've read on here, it looks like she did have some friends, so maybe you can get some closure from talking with them. I don't know if you put your phone number or email address on so they can get in touch with you, but I didn't see any contact information. I love you guys. Aunt Dea in Tenn. My prayers are with you all.

BP, Do you have a heart? furthermore a "PERFECT" FAMILY?
TLW February 24, 2013 at 04:28 AM

I dont understand how you think that it is murder. I am not sorry for her I feel sorry for the boys that she left behind. And as a mother to leave your children because you have problems. Woman have been dealin with issues for hundreds of years and dont end their own lives. You have to take care of what you need to and be there for your kids. I knew Jade and she only cared about herself and no one else. Now her boys have to live the rest of their lives think that their mom didnt care about them and gave up on them. So what kind of live does them boys get to have
BP February 25, 2013 at 08:36 AM
It was exactly a MURDER---Two completely open quadrants for pedestrians ---QUIET ZONE---and junk signals with 55 mph trains on three tracks.

My mom was a good friend of Jade's and I knew her pretty well. She stayed at my house a few times. She had her problems but nothing gives anyone the right to say anything about her passing this way. I know people that cared a lot for her and I'm sorry she felt that this was the only way out.
Jessie February 26, 2013 at 11:52 PM
Tammy my mom said she would like to talk to you she just needs a little time. She's still trying to cope. She has a video of Jade she thought you might want to have. You can email me at Jessie.ross00@yahoo.com.

Holley Williams Dykes March 01, 2013 at 11:56 PM
I am Holley Williams Dykes i am Jade's aunt. I just want all of you there to know that she was very much loved by her family here in Ohio. Jade had many mental health and addiction problems that we could not reach her. She was a beautiful young lady but just lost her self. She could have been many things. So please do not judge her or speculate on facts that you know nothing about. She is missed and we are all very sad about our loss.
BP March 02, 2013 at 12:12 AM
Why do you say '''this was the only way out.'''Railroads run people down like dogs every day and do nothing. This family needs to lawyer up and go after the railroad killers so more people aren't ran down.
Jessie March 02, 2013 at 01:51 AM
BP I shouldn't have worded it in that way I just meant I'm sorry all this happened. If you read the comments above from people that saw it the barriers were down and it looked like she walked in front of the train so just stop.

Pathetic looking lights that look like they came over on the Mayflower with sight obstructions out the kazoo. So one waits 23 hours and 59 minutes? Your reading what the RR phonies fed the cops who the press take as gospel.
Jessie March 02, 2013 at 04:29 AM
BP I'm really not trying to argue about this.
BP March 02, 2013 at 01:13 PM
Me neither. You can't go by this. Railroads killed 715 people last year (showing) and they can and do cover up the real reasons. She could have been going for a soda and the junk signals failed ---happens all the time.
cassie March 06, 2013 at 05:20 PM
Jade is my cousin. Despite all her problems we could not have seen this coming. She was beautiful and her sons are beautiful too. I will grieve the loss of her forever. Now all we can do is see to it that her sweet boys don't suffer from the same illnesses as her. Rest in peace, jade. I promise to honor your memory the best way I know how.
DRR March 08, 2013 at 08:12 PM
Bp, get a life. I think there is plenty of witnesses that saw the event. It is not the railroads fault. Even if the signals were not functioning one can hear a train coming. They make lots of noise in case you haven't seen one. Sounds like she was a troubled individual, just stop clouding up this site with your negativity.
Holley Williams Dykes March 16, 2013 at 02:37 PM
What is really sad is Jade died a month ago and her body is still in Washington! Because of the almighty dollar!! We could not have her sent back to us because of money, forget about respecting the dead. Her family lost Jade a long time ago her deather h was just a very sad tragic end to a very sad life she chose. But I remember my little blonde headed blue eyed baby niece and I am so sorry I myself could not have done more for her. But she was not this Jane Doe dead body nobody wanted, but yet we are still waiting for her to come home finally.
Holley Williams Dykes March 16, 2013 at 05:31 PM
Yes she was a troubled person who had family members and two sons who loved her despite her choices in life. I hope you never have to experience a loved one with mental illness and have people like you judge them.
tammy williams March 19, 2013 at 12:00 AM
Holley, Jade is home....
tammy williams March 19, 2013 at 12:14 AM
The time it took to bring Jade home was not just because of money, it was all the legal paperwork it takes to get this done from one state to another, finding a funeral home . It was over a week after her death that we found out she had died. We had to notify family members, work on the legal part before we could do anything. As everything else in life this too was a process....
