It's Teacher Appreciation Week in Puyallup

Teacher Appreciation Week is being celebrated throughout the Puyallup School District May 6-10.

The Puyallup School Board approved a proclamation at its April 22 meeting naming May 6-10 Teacher Appreciation Week. The local recognition coincides with both the state and national Teacher Appreciation Week.

Brian Fox, executive director of communications, information, and arts education, read and presented the proclamation to Puyallup Education Association President Karen McNamara on behalf of teachers and other non-supervisory certificated staff.

The school district employs nearly 1,200 certificated staff.

During the same meeting the board recognized this year's Teachers of the Year: Adrienne Caufield, who teaches first grade at Shaw Road Elementary School, and Christopher Tavern, who teaches drama and American Studies at Emerald Ridge High School.

Both Caufield and Tavern will be featured in the June issue of the school district's Connections newspaper.
