Visit School District Science Fair and Honoring Cultures Celebration at Puyallup Spring Fair

The Puyallup School District's 15th annual Science Fair, "Science Explorations 2013," and the 10th annual Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration, will be held April 18-21 during the Spring Fair at the Puyallup Fair and Events Center.

Student projects will be on display throughout the weekend on the second floor of the Pavilion. Families are also invited to watch a variety of student activities and special science presentations. 

Students in grades three through 12 are invited to compete in an annual timed event called the Straw Tower Contest at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Students can register for this contest between 6 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 on the second floor of the Pavilion.

The community is also invited to watch a robotics presentation at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, followed at 6 p.m. by the annual science fair awards ceremony.

Nearly 300 science projects are registered for this year’s Spring Fair display.

Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration

Art, essays, poetry, stage performances, and other culturally-relevant student learning projects will be featured April 18-21 during the 10th annual Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration.

The event, sponsored by the school district’s Office of Equity and Achievement, is held during all four days of the Puyallup Spring Fair.

A full day of stage performances, read-alouds, and other student participation will be held between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. Students will be on hand to discuss their work and reflect on their learning about diversity and honoring cultures.

The diversity celebration is held in the South Foyer and Pioneer Room inside the ShowPlex Exhibition Hall. The district and community group and individual performances are featured on the Coca-Cola Stage adjacent to the indoor displays (See performance schedule

The mission of the Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration is to promote student achievement by “continuing to build a culturally responsive learning community through creative educational initiatives that enhance and showcase the cultural competence of all staff, students, and the community-at-large."
